The last time we said goodbye, it was in Paris, in front of the National Museum of Natural History. This time, we found each other again in the picturesque setting of Copenhagen, for two intense and inspiring days hosted by the Technical University of Denmark (DTU) and the Royal Danish Library (RDL).
Day 1: Consortium meeting and IEA EBC Annex 92 at DTU
The consortium meeting opened on 1 October at DTU’s campus in Lyngby. Each partner presented progress on their work package activities. This gave the whole consortium a shared view of where the project stands, with plenty of time for questions and discussion.
The afternoon was dedicated to the IEA EBC Annex 92 meeting, where several SIMIACCI partners were among the speakers. Researchers from around the world shared insightful work on indoor air quality, ranging from predictive modelling to new materials. Here is an overview of the talks:
- Predictive modeling for indoor air quality control in GLAMs – Abeer Mohtar (Universidade de Lisboa, Portugal)
- An experimental and modeling study on the adsorption characteristics of activated carbon under different challenge concentration levels – Jensen Zhang (Syracuse University, USA)
- Synthesis and characterization of MOFs for IAQ applications – Tarik Aaboub (IMAP, ESPCI, France)
- Bactericidal performance of MOFs for immersion-type building environmental materials – Bin Yang, Yanju Li and Yongzhu Zhou (Tianjin Chengjian University, China)
- MOF for air chemical contaminant control in electronic clean rooms: potentials and problems – Jingjing Pei (Tianjin University, China)
- Dual-ligand metal-organic frameworks for volatile organic compound capture under humid indoor conditions – Katherine Lin and Doyun Won (NRC, Canada)
- Modeling the ion-particle interactions and particle deposition in needle-point bipolar ionization (NPBI) technology – Wenfeng Huang (Syracuse University, USA)
- Introduction to SMBEC 2027 – Vincenzo Maria Gentile (Politecnico di Torino, Italy)
- Open discussion – led by Jensen Zhang with all participants
The day ended with a tour of the DTU laboratories, where we visited several test rooms and got a behind-the-scenes look at our partners’ work. One highlight was a full-scale aircraft cabin mock-up, where tests are carried out to replicate real flight conditions. You can find some photos from the visit in the gallery below.
Day 2: GLAMs in focus at the Royal Danish Library
The second day took place in the remarkable setting of the Royal Danish Library, where the beautiful rooms created a truly special atmosphere. The day was dedicated to the GLAMs (galleries, libraries, archives and museums), which are at the heart of the project. Each institution shared updates on its progress and on-site tests. The discussion that followed helped us refine the overall strategy as we prepare for the final exhibitions.
We closed the day with a guided tour of the photography exhibition currently on display at the Library, a perfect way to make the most of this magical location.
We would like to thank all the partners who took part. It is always a pleasure to spend time together and build this project brick by brick. A special thank you goes to our hosts, DTU and the Royal Danish Library, for welcoming us to their wonderful premises. We left Copenhagen with a touch of nostalgia, but full of enthusiasm for SIMIACCI’s next steps.
To our partners: see you soon! And to everyone following SIMIACCI: stay tuned, because there is much more to come from this one-of-a-kind project.
