SIMIACCI Focus Meeting
Back

In June, the SIMIACCI project hosted an online Focus Meeting bringing together experts from museums, archives and research institutions to discuss indoor air quality in cultural heritage environments.

Results from the SIMIACCI questionnaire confirm that indoor air quality management remains a major challenge across the GLAM sector: 67% of institutions do not regularly monitor indoor air pollutants, 83% have no dedicated indoor air quality or climate management group, and many respondents are unsure whether monitoring takes place at all. These findings underline the need for practical and heritage-specific solutions, reinforcing the relevance of SIMIACCI.

The meeting also confirmed that SIMIACCI targets the most critical pollutants for cultural heritage preservation, including organic acids, aldehydes, nitrogen oxides (NOx) and hydrogen sulfide (H₂S). Case studies from the Louvre Abu Dhabi and the French National Archives illustrated how pollutant risks can remain hidden for long periods and how unexpected emission sources can challenge current monitoring practices.
